The Sushruta Samhita (1rst century BC) is the world's earliest surgical treatise and includes descriptions of 1120 illnesses, categorization of 700 medicinal plants, and hundreds of surgical techniques. The Sushruta was highly influential over several hundred years and was passed to the Middle East and then to Italy and the rest of Europe.
